A native and resident of Loreauville, Whitney “Opie” Prados passed away on November 18, 2025.
Opie was a man who found his greatest joy in the outdoors, spending countless cherished moments at his camp in Pecan Island, hunting, fishing, and sharing his love of nature with those he held dear. He never missed an opportunity to teach his children and grandchildren the skills he valued—how to hunt, how to fish, and most of all, how to appreciate the virtues of family, togetherness, and the beauty of the natural world. A devoted father and grandfather, he loved nothing more than cooking for his family, benefits, charities, any opportunity or simply because they were gathered. His favorite meal to prepare and enjoy was squirrel, a dish that became a family tradition. Opie also had a passion for Cajun dancing and was so talented that he earned numerous awards showcasing his remarkable skill.
For more than 30 years, Opie faithfully served his community through his A/C business, always approaching his work with dedication and integrity. His strong work ethic, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family defined the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind. Opie will be remembered as a patient teacher, a skilled outdoorsman, a gifted dancer, and a man who treasured every moment spent with the people he loved.
Opie is survived by his children, Opie Prados and wife Melissa, Mindy Prados, partner Ava Harris; grandchildren, Taylor Prados, Brandon Prados; great-grandson William; siblings, Dianne Theroit, Wilbert Prados, Gilman Prados, Robert Prados, Kevin Prados; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tino, and Lorraine Broussard Prados; siblings, Juliette Melancon, Thomas “Sunshine” Prados, Deidra Henderson, Sidney Prados, and his beloved sidekick, Superbowl.
