Verna "Sook" Bonin Suard

Loreauville–A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Verna “Sook” B. Suard, age 98, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Barry Crochet as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at St. Jospeh Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m. A Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home prior to the Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m.

A native and lifelong resident of Loreauville, Verna “Sook” Suard passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Garden View Assisted Living.

Sook married the love of her life, Louis Suard, and together they shared 61 beautiful years of marriage. Their union was blessed with three children—Neil, Janie, and Wendy—who were the pride and joy of her life. Over the years, her family grew to include seven cherished grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her endless happiness. Sook’s love for her family was unwavering, and she took great joy in watching them grow, celebrating their milestones, and surrounding them with her boundless affection.

In her spare time, Sook found peace and joy in tending to her garden, immersing herself in romance novels, and sharing her warm, welcoming spirit with everyone she met. She was best remembered for her kindness and the simple truth that she never met a stranger. In her later years, Sook made her home at Garden View Assisted Living Center, where she embraced each day with gratitude and enjoyed every moment spent with new friends and caring staff. Her legacy of love, compassion, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Sook is survived by her children, Neil Suard (fiancée Cheryl Bruce), Janie S. Dugas, Wendy S. Breaux; grandchildren, Casey Dugas, Cherie Dugas, Catherne Davidson (Sara), Misty Boudreaux, Erica Guidry (Elliot), Francine Dugas, Tracey Egan; 11 great-grandchildren, and 8 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61years, Louis O’Neil Suard; her parents, Anatole, and Clemence Frioux Bonin; siblings, Leroy Bonin, Alton Bonin, Marie Lee B. Prioux, Emmeline Bonin, Selma Bonin, and son-in-law, L.J. Dugas.

Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Bronson Breaux, Brannon Breaux, Becket Breaux, Scott Davis, Lacey Prioux, and Garret Ledford.
