New Iberia–Funeral services will be conducted for Sara G. Casas, Master Sargent Air Force (Ret), age 81, on Wednesday; June 10, 2026, at Frioux Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Ed Degeyter as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings La.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A Rosary will be prayed prior to the funeral service at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
A native of Gomez Palacio Durango, Mexico and resident of San Antonio, TX., Sara G. Casas passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at her grandson’s residence in Jeanerette, La.
Sara Guiterrez Casas, Master Sergeant Air Force (Ret.) 433rd Airlift Wing Kelly AFB, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away leaving behind a legacy of strength, service, and love. A proud veteran, Master Sergeant Casas served her country honorably for more than 20 years. Alongside her beloved husband, Robert Dela Garza, Navy (Ret.). Together, they traveled the world through their military service, building a life rooted in dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism. Sara proudly served during the Gulf War and often shared stories of the many places her service took her, always speaking with pride about the journey she and her husband experienced together.
Beyond her military accomplishments, Sara was known for her warm spirit, vibrant personality, and deep love for family and friends. She fondly recalled evenings spent at the Officers’ Club, dancing, laughing, and socializing with fellow service members and loved ones. Her stories carried the joy of a life fully lived and the honor she felt in serving her nation unconditionally. Sara’s strength, kindness, and devotion to those she loved will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her
Master Sargent (Ret) is survived by her grandchildren, Albert Hernandez and wife Savanna, Sara Christina Casas, Johnny Casas and wife Kimberly Casas, Leonard Casas and wife Leanna Casas, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great greatgrandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dela Garza, Navy (Ret); mother, Luz Guiterrez, and her daughter, Norma Jean Hernandez
