Jeanerette– A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Patricia “Patti” Murphy Gravois age 88, on Wednesday, October 8, at 11 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Jeanerette with Rev. Donald Bernard officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. John the Evangelist Mausoleum.
Patti was a native of Wintrop, Massachusetts, and resident of Jeanerette, who passed away peacefully, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, with her family by her side. Patti met the love of her life, Carol J. Gravois Sr., in Winthrop, Massachusetts, in 1954. They were married there in March of 1955, and soon after, they moved to Louisiana, where they built a life together and remained for the next 70 years. Once all five of her children were in school, she took on the challenge of going to college at the University of Southwestern Louisiana and earned her degree in just four years. With a degree in Education and Music, she began a new chapter, starting a career that let her share her love of learning and children with others. She retired after working for Iberia Parish School board, where she taught special education for 21 years. The children she taught over the years left a lasting impression on her. She often shared stories of the things they said and did, their words staying with her long after her classroom days. Her family and faith were most important to her. She was an excellent gardener and loved to fish with her husband.
Patti is survived by her five children Carol (Jimmy) Gravois Jr, husband of Donna Sawyer Gravois, Patrick (Ricky) Gravois, husband of Mona Savoie Gravois, Kathleen (Kathy) Gravois Savoie, wife of Benjamin Savoie Jr, Geanna Gravois, wife of Roddy Benoit, Marilyn (Tinka) Gravois, wife of Roger English. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two sisters, Jeanette Murphy Paige and Marilyn Murphy Rapchuck.
Patti was preceded in death by her husband, Carol J. Gravois, Sr. and her parents, Patrick Murphy and Genevieve Murphy.
