Abbeville – Funeral services for Mrs. Nora Nunez Hawthorne, 78, will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10, 2025, at Frioux-David Funeral Home of Abbeville, with burial to follow at Hills-Rudd Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mrs. Nora Nunez Hawthorne, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully at 1:40 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2025. Nora lived a life defined by grace, kindness, and unwavering love for those around her. Her warmth touched everyone she met, and her legacy will continue in the hearts of all who knew her.

For more than 20 years, Nora was a talented and passionate beautician. As the owner of Nora’s Beauty Salon, she created a welcoming space where women felt confident, cared for, and uplifted. Her clients were like family, and she took pride in helping others embrace their own beauty.

Nora’s love for people extended into every part of her life. Alongside her husband, they owned and operated Sankofa Grocery, where her friendly presence made customers feel appreciated and at home. She later excelled as the executive salesperson at Hawthorne’s Upholstery, another family business she and Nathan built together. Their partnership was the foundation of their success, and Nora’s gift for connecting with others made her an invaluable part of the business.

Outside of work, Nora enjoyed many simple pleasures—especially visiting the casino and playing the slot machines, always with a smile. Above all, she cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother whose greatest joy came from being surrounded by her family.

Nora embodied elegance, strength, and compassion. Her calm spirit, fairness, and emotional wisdom made others feel seen, heard, and valued. She brought joy to every celebration, often enjoying the moment even more than the person being celebrated. Her presence made life brighter, and no one ever left her company without feeling uplifted.

To many, Nora was the very definition of a “Diva” — not in attitude, but in confidence, grace, and quiet strength. She carried herself with dignity and touched countless lives with her kindness. She never met a stranger, and she had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and generosity of spirit.

Mrs. Nora Nunez Hawthorne is survived by her loving husband of forty-eight years, Nathan "Oba Jabari" Hawthorne of Abbeville; two sons: Aldon Harris, Sr. of Houston and Myron Harris of Abbeville, La, four daughters: Kryshunna Harris-Dupas (Emery) of Houston, Tx, Shaqwan Harris (Leon) of Rosharon, Tx, Kriwanza McCullough (Patrick) of Manvel, Tx, and Lazorian Nunez of Youngsville, La. Thirteen grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who were dear to her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Nunez, Sr. and Juanita Small, and her grandson, Dontrae Broussard.

Pallbearers: Underwood Scipio, Kenneth Ray Hoffpauir, Charles Vallot Sr., Mark Rice, Myron Nunez, and Kurvy Nunez.
