New Iberia - Mark Frederick Armentor, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 86. Mark was born on June 22, 1939, in New Iberia, Louisiana. While his journey took him to South Dakota in the mid-1990s and later to Rockport, Texas, in 1999 to be closer to his mother and sister, his heart always remained in his beloved hometown of New Iberia.
A proud veteran, Mark first served in the National Guard before joining the United States Air Force. He completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and went on to Sheppard Air Force Base to receive his specialized training as an Aircraft Hydraulic Repairman and Technician. He achieved the rank of Airman First Class and was stationed in Ankara, Turkey, and at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, New York. His military service remained a lifelong source of pride. Following his honorable discharge, Mark embarked on a career with Columbian Chemicals Co. that spanned nearly 30 years until his retirement in 1995.
Intelligent, curious, and largely self-taught, Mark possessed an enduring love of knowledge fueled by a passion for reading and a keen interest in the world around him. He was a true critical thinker who questioned the status quo and never took things at face value. Known for his exceptional memory, Mark could recall the most minute details of the past with startling clarity. A conversationalist at heart, he never met a stranger and cherished every opportunity to talk with friends, family, and new acquaintances alike.
Known affectionately as “Ricky” to his family, Mark was defined by his deep devotion to his mother and his loving care for his children. He was a man of simple but profound joys: he never missed a chance to enjoy his favorite Cajun dishes, and he spent each football season proudly cheering on the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. Above all, Mark was a devoted lover of animals. To him, his dogs and cats were not just pets, but family members who were almost always by his side.
Mark is survived by his four daughters and his son: Donna Armentor of Los Angeles, CA; Liz Armentor Bullington of Austin, TX; Janet Armentor and her husband Joshua Perea of Bakersfield, CA; Stephen Armentor of Rockport, TX; and Mary Armentor of Calallen, TX. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Blair Comeaux, Drew Bullington, Ethan Bullington, Kaz Perea, Quinn Armentor Cota, and Easton Garcia; two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Jules Casiano; and his sister, Elaine Wood of Rockport, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emily Beslin Armentor and Laurent Armentor, and his two brothers, Carl and Bobby Armentor.
Mark will be fondly remembered for his sharp intellect, his warmth, and his deep love for his family and furry companions.
