A native of Avery Island and a resident of New Iberia, Margarine Derouen Courville passed away at 8:05AM on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at her home surrounded by her children. Margarine was a beloved woman with the sweetest disposition, whose kindness and warmth touched everyone blessed to know her.

Proud of her heritage, she was known for her love of Cajun dancing, her 20 year career at the iconic McIlhenny Company on Avery Island, and her deep passion for caring for her flowers, family, and home. She lost herself in music, lighting up any room when dancing to Cajun French songs. She was incredibly proud to work at McIlhenny Company, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. Following her retirement, she used her time to travel and genuinely enjoy life. Her hands were rarely still; she poured immense pride into her yard and had a true passion for keeping her flowers immaculate. She kept her mind sharp with crossword puzzles and various brain games. She loved unwinding with her favorite soap opera and spending quiet, comforting evenings watching the Hallmark Channel. She was surrounded by an abundance of love from her family and friends who cherish her dearly.

She is survived by her children, Bryan J. Courville and his wife Desiree, Timothy Courville (her favorite child!), Sabrena Lilkendey; her daughter-in-law, Valerie Courville; her grandchildren, Valerie Green (Richard), Hannah Courville (Zach), Lauren Chapman (Shannon), Courtney Derouen (Trei), Noah Lilkendey, Dakota Morvant (Drake), Lauren Carreno (Eddie); and seventeen great grandchildren; her sister, Audrey D. Breaux; sisters-in-law, Mary Breaux, Dorothy Bailey, and Clara Courville, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dutile and Sedonia DuBois Derouen; the father of her children, Harry Joseph Courville; her son, Mark Christopher Courville; her son-in-law, George Lilkendey; her siblings, Eula Mae Viator, Louella Bonin, Julius Derouen, and Georgie Sevin.

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Bryan J. Courville, Timothy Courville, Brad Courville, Hayward Courville, Craig Breaux, and Trei Derouen.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Margarine’s neighbors, who became more like family through the years, for the love, care, and constant support.

Those who cherish her memory are forever grateful to Zoda Bourque and family for the wonderful years and joy they provided.

The family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Father Keith Landry for administering her last rites and bringing comfort during her final moments. Lastly, they would like to thank Foundations Hospice for the compassionate care they offered her, to Tyler, Rachel, Hailey, Sarah, Pastor Steph, and to her bedside nurses, Jenn, Rhonda, and April.

Frioux Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter Street, 337-369-6336, will be handling the services.
