Mrs. Lilly Decou Blanchard lived a life rooted in the soil she loved so dearly. A true steward of the land, she could be considered a professional homesteader—growing her own produce, raising and preparing her family’s meat, and tending her farm alongside her husband, R.H., whom she inspired to begin the journey. Her green thumb was unmatched, especially when it came to her beloved daylilies, and she found a deep sense of peace caring for her chickens and farm animals. Lilly was as creative as she was hardworking. An avid canner, she preserved the fruits of her labor with care, and her talents extended to crocheting and sewing, where she could craft nearly anything with remarkable detail. She lovingly made quilts for those she held dear, each stitch a reflection of her warmth and generosity. She cherished time with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories in the simplest of moments—like making homemade yeast rolls in the back of the car. Lilly found joy in life’s quiet pleasures: a cup of coffee in hand, a cigarette between her fingers, and the sun on her face as she soaked in the outdoors she treasured so much. Her legacy is one of resilience, creativity, and love—woven into every garden she planted, every meal she prepared, and every life she touched.
Mrs. Lilly Decou Blanchard is survived by her son, Hubert Tray Blanchard and his wife Gertrude; three granddaughters, Tara Blanchard and her husband Ronny Smith, Angie Chesser and her husband Corey, and Cynthia Guillot and her husband Glenn; one grandson, Tray Alan Blanchard; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, R.H. Blanchard; her parents, Eugene Decou and Olita Hebert Decou; her son, Billy Ray Blanchard; and her great-grandson, Joel Hendrix.
Pallbearers will be Tray Allen Blanchard, Corey Chesser, Glenn Guillot, and Ronny Smith.
