New Iberia–A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for LeRoy “Lee” Dautreuil, age 88, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor at 2:00 p.m. the Fr. Barry Crochet as Celebrant.
Visitation will be held at Frioux-David Funeral Home of New Iberia on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Tuesday prior the service at 11:00 a.m.
A native and resident of New Iberia, LeRoy “Lee” Dautreuil passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at his residence surround by his family.
Lee was a hard worker from a very young age. He joined the Navy immediately after graduation from New Iberia High School in 1955. It was there he found his first love for aviation. His main job in the Navy was a helicopter mechanic. After his discharge from the Navy, he met and married the love of his life, Shirley. He then enlisted in the Army where he would hold the position of plane captain. His love for airplanes and flying led him to become a pilot and would fly for 52 years.
Lee wore many professional hats. He was a mud engineer, gas station owner, he flew float planes for the oilfield, crop dusted, he also became an air traffic controller all while seeking a college degree in education and business. He became a teacher and taught Jr. High Industrial Arts and later Auto Mechanics at New Iberia Senior High. He was also was a flight instructor helping to inspire other future pilots. Lee's passion for business led him to his most successful career as a Real Estate Broker and Land Developer. Lee Dautreuil Real Estate & Construction thrived for many years as he and his wife Shirley helped to develop much of New Iberia; including Parc Perdue Estates, where he lived until his death. His zest for knowledge and personal growth led him to become a successful stock broker for Leg Mason until his final retirement in 1996.
His Motto was "work hard and play harder". He was an avid sportsman. He and his sons hunted and fished together. They also trained dogs and participated in field trials for many years. Lee became a marathon runner and tri athlete running with the Iberia Running Group for many years. He took his children on many vacations. Later in life he and Shirley would travel together visiting most every state, including Alaska. Both Lee and Shirley and their son Marc were motorcycle enthusiast. Having several Harley Davidson that they rode together on many trips often with their friends fondly referred to as the "patio group".
Lee loved his home, especially creating his massive flower gardens that had over 250 rose bushes and 120 camellias that flourished and were shared with so many. He was a true patriot and loved this country. He will leave behind a Legacy of a life well lived and a family truly loved.
Lee is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Porrier Dautreuil; his children, Dena D. Beyt (Robert), Marc E. Dautreuil, Andrea D. Broussard (Eric); grandchildren, Marc Dautreuil II (Ginny), Ashley Sumrall (fiancé Irvin Stevens), Brady Sumrall, Ashley B. Choate (Kevin), Jeremy Beyt (Lana), Brian Beyt (Jenna), Scott Beyt (fiancée Ariana Landry), Emily Lancon; great-grandchildren, Cameron Decuir, Kale Decuir (Mikayla), Halle Dautreuil, Landon Decuir, Cameron Stevens, Amalie Sumrall, Julien Stevens, Caroline Sumrall, Banks Beyt, Charlotte Choate, Emerson Beyt, Samuel Choate, Sullivan Beyt, Judah Dautreuil, Hudson Comeaux; great-great grandchild, Parker Kayt; brother, Gerald Dautreuil (Terri), and numerous nieces, nephews, and his fur baby and faithful protector, Cooper.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Orphe J., and Dontilie Babineaux Dautreuil; his son, Scott P. Dautreuil, and grandson, Casey R. Dautreuil.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Marc Dautreuil II, Brady Sumrall, Jeremy Beyt, Brian Beyt, Scott Beyt, Cameron Decuir, Kale Decuir, and Landon Decuir.
