Lafayette – A Celebration of Life will be held at Our Savior's Church, 1201 E Broussard Road, Lafayette, Louisiana on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 12:00PM, for Julie Roberthon Cavalier, 86.
A native of Centerville and a resident of Lafayette, Julie passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, surrounded by the people she loved most, at Calcutta House. Julie was a remarkable woman whose presence brought light and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a natural nurturer with a lifelong love of growing things. Her home was filled with thriving plants, and each one reflected her patient care and steady devotion. She was also devoted to giving back to her community, faithfully supporting Acadiana Animal Aid. Some of her most treasured moments were spent alongside her daughter as they committedly volunteered their time together, sharing in the joy of serving and caring for animals in need.
Brilliant from a young age, Julie skipped the twelfth grade, graduated at seventeen years old, and was named co-valedictorian of her graduating class in 1957. She dominated the basketball court during her High School years as well and carried the same dedication into her physical well-being; she made fitness a priority. Going to the gym three times a week, she found joy in movement and strength. She approached her health with the same consistency and grace that defined every part of her life.
Julie proudly led the Modern Language Department at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where her leadership and dedication shaped the program and influenced the many students who passed through it. After twenty-five years of inspiring a love of language, she retired, leaving behind a lasting impact on colleagues and students alike.
A gifted pianist, Julie had the ability to recreate songs with both feeling and precision. Her creativity also found expression in her love of sewing; she transformed fabric into beautiful creations for herself and her daughters. Her heart was as remarkable as her talents. Above all, Julie adored her beloved dogs, Jacques and Gigi, who brought her endless joy and comfort, as well as her two outdoor cats, Sweetie and Toni. Despite her many accomplishments, she remained wonderfully carefree, a free spirit who embraced life with an easy smile and open heart. Endlessly sweet and steadfast in her kindness, Julie leaves behind a legacy that lives on in the gardens she planted, the minds she inspired, the lives she touched through her generosity, and the love she so freely gave.
Julie is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Edward J. Cavalier; daughters, Michelle Stanley and husband, Brian Stanley, Melanie Broussard and husband, Keith Broussard; brother, Don Roberthon and wife, Linda Roberthon.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Owen Roberthon and Hazel Guillotte; brother, Owen Roberthon Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Julie Cavalier, to Hospice of Acadiana Calcutta House, 2600 Johnston St Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
Frioux-David Funeral Home of Lafayette 316 Youngsville HWY (337)837-9887 will be handling the arrangements.
