Jude Kerner Barras

Erath – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jude “Kerner” Barras, 88, at 1:00PM. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Sensat officiating. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum.

A visitation will be held at Frioux-David Funeral Home of Erath on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, beginning at 9:00AM until the time of services with a recitation of the rosary at 11:00AM.

A native and lifelong resident of Erath, Kerner was a 1954 graduate of Erath High School where he played as Right Halfback and Quarterback for the football team. He then attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute where he majored in Petroleum Engineering and Geology. In his younger days Kerner worked at Gary Hardware, his father’s boat shop and also help his dad build the external pillars on the Bank of Erath. Between high school and college, he worked as a boat captain. After college he worked as a Mud Engineer and had several jobs overseas including Pan Ocean Oil Corp. and Dresser Industries, these jobs brought him to places like South America, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, England, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Nigeria, France, and multiple other locations around the world. From 1984 to 2014 he worked as a consultant serving companies in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas. Some of the proudest moments of his life included having eight children, being a successful pilot, meeting several presidents, including Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush, and a successful career in the Oil Industry where he was a part of several major oil discoveries overseas.

He is survived by six children, Tina Marie Barras, Tracy John Barras, Tynia Ann Barras, Twila Elizabeth Hernandez, Ryan Jude Barras, and Arthur Robin Barras; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Ickson Barras and Nora Marie Schexnayder Barras; a sister, Elva Rita Latiolais; a son, Timothy Jude Barras; and a daughter, Tammie Louis Barras.

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Ryan Barras, Arthur Barras, Tracy Barras, Greg Hernandez, Travis Guillot, and Drake Blanchard.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his two best friends, Ray and DJ.

Frioux-David Funeral Home of Erath at 209 E. Putnam St. (337-937-0405) will be handling arrangements.
