It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Joseph Roger Simon, Sr., who passed away Saturday, November 22, 2025. Joseph was a man whose life was rooted in hard work, generosity, and the simple joys of living close to the land. This was exemplified by his 33 year career working as a supervisor for Shell Oil Company. In addition to this, he found peace in the garden, tending to rows of vegetables and bright flowers with the same care and patience he brought to every part of his life. He was equally at home in the pasture, taking care of his cattle, or out in the fields hunting doves—one of his favorite pastimes.
He was married to the love of his life, Sabra LeBlanc Simon, for nearly 75 years, a bond that was the heart of his world. Their partnership was one built on love, loyalty, and the quiet strength of a life spent side by side.
A talented carpenter, Joseph spent countless hours remodeling and renovating his home, always improving, always creating. He also built beyond his own four walls being the co-owner/co-developer of Country Acres subdivision north of Erath, a project that reflected his vision, determination, and pride in his community.
Joseph loved the outdoors, especially mowing his grass and keeping his lawn immaculate. He found joy in a well-kept yard and in the satisfaction of a job done right. A man with a deep appreciation for good food, he enjoyed cooking as much as he enjoyed eating. He was known for preparing large meals to feed family and friends—gumbo, jambalaya, étouffée, garfish roast, garfish balls, rice and gravy—dishes made with love and shared with everyone who gathered around his table.
Above all, Joseph cherished his family. He was always there when you needed him—steady, kind, and dependable. He loved to dance, to laugh, and to bring people together. His warmth and generosity were felt by all who knew him.
Joseph leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion. Those who were blessed to share in his life will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
He is survived by four sons, Joseph “Chuck” Simon, II and his wife Karen of Erath, Burt Simon and his wife Ann Fluitt of Lafayette, Robert Simon and his wife Kay Young of Erath, and Phil Simon and his wife Jamie of Erath; two daughters, Carol Picard, of Erath, and Sonia Simon and her partner David Randall of Houston; ten grandchildren, Joseph “Chucky” Simon, III of Erath, Jed Simon of Missouri, Ross Simon and his wife Courtney of Nunez, Ada LeDoux and her husband Dr. Shawn LeDoux of Hattiesburg, Jacob Simon and his partner Enrrique Mayes of Youngsville, Taylor Simon and his wife Claire of North Carolina, Kallen Simon of Erath, Rebecca Simon and her wife Channing Langlinais of Lafayette, Alie Broussard and her husband Gavin of Duson, and Megan Kekich and her husband Kevin of North Carolina; and twelve great-grandchildren, Kennedi Simon, Alex Simon, William Paul Simon, Lawson Simon, Camille Simon, Jeanne LeDoux, Hunter LeDoux, Katie LeDoux, Evelyn Broussard, Elliott Broussard, Emmett Broussard, and Evangeline Kekich.
