Dumas Dugas, Jr.

Loreauville – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Dumas Dugas, Jr., at 1:00PM, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Loreauville, with Deacon Chris Doumit officiating.

Visitation will begin at 8:00AM, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Frioux Funeral Home of Loreauville. A Recitation of the Rosary will be led by The Men's Rosary Group at 11:00AM.

Dumas will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather whose warmth, talents, and zest for life touched everyone who knew him. A man of uncommon generosity, he was always willing to help someone in need and never expected anything in return. Born and raised in Loreauville, Louisiana, Dumas grew up speaking Cajun French, and the traditions of that upbringing remained with him throughout his life. He took great pleasure in speaking French with others whenever the opportunity arose, keeping alive a cherished part of his heritage and the way of life in which he was raised. Dumas proudly served for six years in the Louisiana National Guard. A skilled tradesman who was always comfortable working with his hands, he spent much of his working life as a pipefitter and welder. His trade took him to jobs throughout South Louisiana, including hospitals, schools, industrial facilities, and River Bend Nuclear Station in St. Francisville, where he worked for a significant portion of his career. At different times in his life, Dumas also worked in agriculture and cattle, along with other pursuits that reflected his practical nature and wide range of abilities. Cooking was another special part of Dumas’s life. He spent many years cooking at Roxie’s Corner Grocery and became well known for preparing traditional Cajun food the way he had learned growing up. He had a particular talent for making boudin and cracklins from scratch and was especially known among family and friends for his black pot chuck roast. His culinary talents earned him several awards over the years, but for Dumas, sharing good food with family and friends was one of life’s greatest pleasures. A true horseman, Dumas found great joy in owning, raising, training, and racing horses. He also loved sailing and cherished the freedom and peacefulness he found on the water. Music was another special part of his life, with Cajun and zydeco music holding a particular place in his heart. He especially enjoyed attending the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, where he could listen to the music he loved and enjoy the company of those around him. Whether he was preparing a favorite Cajun dish, talking about his horses, sailing, speaking Cajun French, enjoying music, or simply visiting with those he loved, Dumas had a way of making moments memorable. He was a man of many talents who never needed much for himself and was always willing to share what he had with someone else. Above all, Dumas treasured his family. He was a loving husband, father, and  grandfather who took great pride in the people he loved most. His generous spirit, many talents, love of Cajun culture, and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts, stories, and memories of all who knew and loved him.

Dumas is survived by his wife, Juanita LeBlanc Dugas; two sons, Jeremy Paul Dugas and Bodie James Dugas; two grandchildren, Austin Jude Dugas and Emma Grace Dugas; one sister, Louise Barras and her husband, Eddie; one stepsister, Gloria Thibodeaux; two brothers-in-law, Johnny LeBlanc and his wife, Vickie, and Clint LeBlanc and his wife, Tammy; and two sisters-in-law, Roxie LeBlanc and Felecie Dugas Landry; and his Mother-in-law, Rita Carbo.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dumas Joseph Dugas, Sr. and Agnes “Ca” Berard Dugas; one grandson, Ethan Paul Dugas; one brother, Ravis “BooBoo” Joseph Dugas; one stepsister, Joann Treadway; and one brother-in-law, Ovey LeBlanc.

Pallbearers will be Bodie Dugas, Austin Dugas, Sandy Bernard, Johnny LeBlanc, Byron Decuir, and Jeff Foreman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Eddie Barras and Travis Barras.
