On January 6, 1966, a son was born to the union of John LJ Hawthorne and Rose Simon Hawthorne. His name was John C. Hawthorne, better known as “Craig.”
He graduated from Abbeville High School in 1984 and attended Vermilion Parish Trade School, where he received a welding trade. He later attended UL Lafayette for two years as an industrial technology major.
John was a dedicated father, a hard worker, and a man known for his reliability and strength. He spent many years in the offshore oil industry, beginning his career with ENSCO Drilling Company as a roustabout and steadily working his way up through the ranks to floor hand, derrick hand, assistant driller, driller, and ultimately tool pusher. After leaving ENSCO, he continued working offshore for an additional three years before officially retiring from the oil industry in 2020. In 2021, John began a new career in automotive sales, working with Sterling Kia Automotive Group until his passing. Outside of work, he had a passion for motorcycle riding, particularly Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and attended his final Lone Star Bike Rally in Galveston, Texas, in November 2025.
John bravely battled congestive heart failure for as long as he could. On January 2, 2026, at 12:27 p.m., he was peacefully called home, reunited with his beloved mother.
He leaves to cherish memories of a life fully lived - one spent riding motorcycles with Bad Blood Posse, drag racing, welding, tending to his father’s every need, fishing with his sons, enjoying the outdoors, and always lending a helping hand wherever it was needed.
He is survived by his father, John LJ Hawthorne of Abbeville, Louisiana; his sister, Charlene Sampy of Orlando, Florida; his children, Craig “Jordan” Lewis of Abbeville, Louisiana, Nicholas Lamar Hawthorne of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Alex Amand Hawthorne of New York, New York; his granddaughter, Maliyah Lewis of Abbeville, Louisiana; his aunt, Pauline Hawthorne of Abbeville, Louisiana; his nieces, Carmela Museaux of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Briana Sampy of Carencro, Louisiana; his first cousins, Kibbie Pillette Jr. (Renee) of Waco, Texas, and Nichelle Harris of Lafayette, Louisiana; and a host of relatives and close friends.
