New Iberia -- A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held for John Walter Berard, 82, at 3:00PM on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Frioux-David Funeral Chapel with Military Rites to follow services. Private interment to be held at a later date.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at Frioux-David Funeral Home of New Iberia on Friday, May 16, 2025, beginning at 2:00PM until the time of services with a recitation of the rosary at 2:30 PM by the Men’s Rosary Group.
John Walter Berard a native and resident of New Iberia, passed away at 11:03AM on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at his residence. John selflessly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he ascended to the rank of Sergeant before taking his leave in 1966. He was a dedicated member of the Democratic State Central Committee for 12 years, where he represented House District 48. He passionately served as Chairman of the Fundraising Committee for the Louisiana Mental Health Association. John served on the Iberia Parish School Board from 1982 to 1990 representing District 6, and was a member of the Iberia Parish Council representing District 7 from 2008 to 2012. John was proud to have managed Morten Anderson, a renowned kicker for the Saints.
He is survived by his son, Marklin James Reaux Jr.; and cousin, Mary Beth Tatman-Sloane.
He is preceded in death by his parents Walter Berard and Mildred Moncla Berard; a son, Raylon James Walker; aunts, Sadie Berard Tatman and Evelyn Berard Vaughn; uncles, Marcus Berard, Claude Berard, Thomas Berard and Frederick Berard.
