Joel Terrebonne passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and unforgettable character. A proud Vietnam Army veteran, Joel deeply honored his service to his country and carried that pride throughout his life. Joel was highly skilled at shooting pool, playing in several leagues and, for a time, even making his living from the game. He especially enjoyed dressing up and playing pool at Emerald’s, where his talent and personality were well known. He was also a member of the American Legion, valuing the camaraderie and fellowship it provided. Dedicated to public service, Joel worked with the Erath Police Department, the Delcambre Police Department, and later retired from the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department after years of faithful service to his community. Above all else, Joel was known as one of the nicest people anyone could meet; making it all the more ironic and endearing that his grandchildren affectionately called him “Grumpy.” He married the love of his life, Verna, and together they built a beautiful family. Joel dearly loved his children and all of his grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. Joel Terrebonne will be remembered for his kindness, his service, his love of family, and the many lives he touched. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Joel Terrebonne is survived by two sons, Benjie Terrebonne (Kelly) of Broussard, and Tommy Terrebonne (Monique) of Erath; two daughters, Sharon Terrebonne (Kelly Breaux) of Youngsville, and Mishala Terrebonne of Delcambre; two step-sons, Ritchie Richard (Rachel) of Erath, and Lance Richard (Jessica) of Delcambre; one step-daughter, Mandy Richard Comeaux (Monty) of Erath; twenty-one grandchildren, Hope, Brittany, Tyler, Tate, Marae, Kain, Kye, Kenzie, Zoe, Ethan, Lanie, Cade, Quinn, Haiden, Channe', Shaundi, Shauna, Sean, Daphne, Hanns, and Makayla; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Lilyth Rae, Luetta, Theo, Marley, Scarlett, Ryan, Tucker, Ava, Charlie, Brooks, Trevor, Maximus, Khol, Rex, Brae', Kyler, Kaleb, Kallyn, Brady, Vera, Jon, Elle, and Kyleigh; and one great-great-grandchild, Grayson.
