Joanie passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer, a journey she offered up with grace and complete trust in God’s will. Her deep Catholic faith sustained her through every hardship, and she faced each day with a steadfast hope and a heart firmly set on her desire to go home to heaven.
Joanie’s radiant presence—her sunshine of a smile, quick wit, and boundless kindness—brightened every room she entered. She saw the good in every person she met and had a remarkable way of making others feel cared for and understood. Her fellow employees remember that even in the most stressful moments, her incredible smile never faded. She loved laughter, mischief, and well-timed jokes, often sneaking in playful tricks just to make someone’s day brighter. If you were lucky enough to have Joanie in your corner, she always had your back.
As the oldest of four, Joanie took her role to heart. She was lovingly straightforward, fiercely protective, and helped her parents care for her younger siblings with a maturity beyond her years. She carried that same loyalty and strength throughout her life, remaining deeply independent and full of spirit.
Her joys were simple and meaningful—watching hummingbirds outside her window, reading, sewing, baking, cooking for her family, and sharing homemade treats with residents and staff at Maison Teche. Competitive by nature, she especially loved bingo, always ready for a spirited game. Music brought her peace, and camping by the river brought her happiness and calm. Above all, her sons were the greatest pride and love of her life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Maison Teche Nursing Home—the nurses, caregivers, and staff who cared for Joanie with such compassion and dedication. They also extend sincere thanks to Hope Hospice for their gentle, comforting support. Special appreciation is given to the many friends, family members, volunteers, and members of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Jeanerette, whose prayers, kindness, and presence lifted Joanie and her loved ones throughout her journey.
She is survived by her father, Donald P. Landry (Olena); two sons, Justin Hamblin (Rebekah) and Austin Hamblin (Michelle); a sister, Jill Landry Denise (Darren); two brothers, Jobie Landry (Colette) and Chris Landry (Carmen); three grandchildren, Ayden, Cecilia, and Isabella; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Earline Mary Touchet Landry.
Serving as pall bearers will be Justin Hamblin, Austin Hamblin, Zachary Bridges, Jason Bridges, Brody Denise, and Cole Denise.
Serving as honorary pall bearers will be Darren Denise and Matthew Landry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a Mass be offered for the repose of Joanie’s soul.
Frioux-David Funeral Home of Abbeville at 2600 Charity Street (337) 893-3777 will be in charge of the arrangements.
