A native of Red Bay, AL., and resident of Jeanerette, Jackie Maupin passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital.

Jackie was a devoted husband, father, soldier, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and—above all—best friend to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He cherished his family deeply and lived each day with unwavering love and loyalty. Jackie married the love of his life, Mary Gaudet Maupin, and together they shared 69 beautiful years. Their marriage was blessed with three children whom they raised with faith, strength, and compassion. A proud U.S. Army soldier, Jackie honorably served his country while stationed in Korea, where he was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.

Throughout his life, Jackie found great joy in working with his hands. He was a gifted mechanic and engineer who loved tearing motors apart and rebuilding them from the ground up. If something was broken, Jackie could fix it—often better than before—and he took great pride in bringing things back to life. His curiosity, resourcefulness, and determination were matched only by his generous spirit. Jackie leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and kindness, forever remembered by the countless lives he touched.

Jackie is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Audrey Gaudet Maupin, two children, Donald Maupin of Cary, NC., Bonnie Messer (Travis) of Forest Hill, LA.; grandchildren, Matthew, Kristin, Ethan, Kayla, Danielle, Sydni; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Fennel, and Linda Wilhelm (Thomas).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Early and Evelyn Cox Maupin; daughter, Audrey Lee Maupin; siblings, Richard Eugene Maupin, Frankie Maupin, Dennis Maupin, Vicky Sue Ashley, and Edward Keith Maupin.

Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Rivers Patout, Moise Guillotte, Wilson LeBlanc, Lloyd Jason McDaniel, Sr. and Lloyd Jason McDaniel, Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ochsner Lafayette General for their kindness and support.
