New Iberia- Helen Joan (“Joan”) Harte Renfroe passed away on February 10, 2026, at the age of 96 years.
Joan was born on April 9, 1929, to George Bernard Harte, II and Helen Elizabeth Von Hoene Harte, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she spent her early childhood. The family moved to Jefferson Island, Louisiana, when Joan was 12 years old.
Joan attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now ULL), graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in education.
Joan married her beloved husband, Honore Monroe (“Red”) Renfroe (now deceased), in 1950. They settled in New Iberia, where Joan taught the 7th and 8th grade Gifted and Talented at New Iberia Junior High School.
For many years Joan served her church as Sunday School teacher and Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of New Iberia.
She is survived by her five children, Deborah Renfroe Schick and husband Thomas of Kansas City, MO; Honore M. (“Rennie”) Renfroe, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Kailua, HI; Randall W. Renfroe and wife Deborah of Lafayette, LA; Pamela Renfroe Delaune and husband Martin of New Iberia, LA; and Melanie Renfroe McLean and husband David of Fort Collins, CO; ten grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express loving thanks to the staff at Garden View Assisted Living Facility, to all of the caregivers who tended to Joan in her time of need, and to her dear Garden View friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on April 11, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1212 Jane Street, New Iberia, Louisiana 70563, followed by visitation until 3:30 p.m.
