Gladys was a woman of deep faith and service, honored as Catholic Daughter of the Year for her devotion to church, family, and community. A talented seamstress, she lovingly made countless preemie gowns for the NICU units in New Iberia and Lafayette, and crocheted hundreds of toboggans for children at St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Dallas Children’s Hospital. Her giving spirit extended to her parish, where she baked many cakes for church sales—her pecan, coconut, pineapple upside-down cakes, and homemade bread were legendary. She found joy in her garden, tenderly caring for her flowers, and during her time living on Lake Fausse Point, she kept chickens and ducks, all named with love and humor, and even cared for a pet alligator affectionately called Alli.

Her life was rich with simple pleasures and cherished memories. She enjoyed bus trips with her Homemaker Club friends, not for the gambling, but for the fellowship, food, and the treats she baked to share with everyone. A true baseball fan, she rooted faithfully for the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed trips to Texas where she and her family attended Shreveport Captains games. Instrumental in Jeanerette Academy and dedicated to her work in the Loreauville school cafeteria, she touched many lives through her kindness and hard work. Her greatest joy was visiting St. Jude’s, sharing summers with her grandchildren on the houseboat, and above all, being a devoted mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law—a legacy of love that will live on through her family.
