New Iberia- Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gerald Charles Gesser, 82, who passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Tuesday April 22, 2025, from 4pm to 8pm at Frioux-David Funeral Home in New Iberia, with a rosary at 6pm. Visitation will resume at 9am on Wednesday April 23, 2025, in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, followed by a Mass at 11am, with interment at Holy Family Cemetery.
Gerald, a life-long resident of New Iberia, cherished his family and loved the many family gatherings, such as camping trips and other events marking various milestones in his daughter’s and grandchildren’s lives. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles and having a good Old Fashioned with a great meal. His generosity was endless and his positive impact on family, business associates, and friends is immeasurable. He was a forward-thinker who always had a solution to provide, and he possessed an abundance of architectural talent, vision, and leadership.
Before starting his architecture firm over 50 years ago, he interned under the guidance of his older brother, Herman J. Gesser Jr, for seven years. He left his stamp throughout Iberia Parish, in the state-of-the-art schools that he designed and built for the Iberia Parish School Board, St. Edward’s Catholic School and Catholic High School (graduate of the Class of 1961), in the Parish Government systems and facilities that he improved, and in businesses at the Port of Iberia that he helped design.
Gerald now rejoins in Heaven with his parents, Herman J. Gesser Sr. and Stillman Folse Gesser, his niece Courtney Anne Gesser, and his two sisters-in-law, Faye Taggart Gesser and Diana Lee Gesser. He is survived by his daughters Kimberly Gesser LeBreton and her husband Guy, Elizabeth Gesser Dorsey and her husband Dustin, his grandchildren Hunter J. LeBreton and his wife, Caroline, Madeline E. LeBreton, Evan C. LeBreton, and Chase M. Dorsey. He was also blessed with a great-grandson, Liam J. LeBreton. He is also survived by three brothers, Herman J Gesser Jr., Edgar A Gesser Sr., and Byron J Gesser Sr., his former wife Charlotte P. Gesser, and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Herman J. Gesser III, Edgar A. Gesser Jr., Byron J. Gesser Jr., Guy J. LeBreton, Hunter J. LeBreton, Evan C. LeBreton, Chase M. Dorsey, and Coray L. Wiles. Honorary pallbearers are Herman J. Gesser Jr., Edgar A. Gesser Sr., Byron J. Gesser Sr., Dr. Douglas Sagrera, and Ronald Fremin, Jr.
Gerald’s family would like to thank Dr. Douglas Sagrera for a lifetime of loving care and friendship. Also, deep appreciation to Dr. Bose Cheeran, Dr. Anjum Asad, and his entire medical team for their dedication to his care. The family wishes to thank Jenice Edwards, Denise Sayrie, Lisa Chargois, along with the entire staff at Lafayette Physical Rehabilitation Hospital for their wonderful care and assistance.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gerald’s honor to Catholic High School of New Iberia at 1301 De La Salle Drive, New Iberia, LA 70560, Congregation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, PO Box 476, Lacombe, LA, 70445-0476, or St. Edwards School, 175 Porter Street, New Iberia, LA 70560.
