New Iberia, LA - A mass of Christian burial will be held for Mr. Gerald Joseph Delcambre, 88, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Frioux-David Funeral of New Iberia and continue until 9:00 p.m. A recitation of the Rosary will be led by the Men’s Rosary Group at 6:00 p.m.
Visitation will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Frioux-David Funeral Home of New Iberia and continue until the time of service.
Mr. Gerald Joseph Delcambre was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, proud U.S. Marine, accomplished journalist and lifelong entrepreneur whose faith and family guided him all through his life. Gerald was known for his kindness, gentle spirit and leaves behind a legacy of hard work and deep devotion to those he loved. His pride in being a Marine never faded, and he carried the values of honor, discipline, and loyalty into everything he did. Gerald went on to become an award-winning feature writer with The Daily Iberian in the mid 1960’s. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, he ventured into numerous business endeavors, including wedding photography, operating two gas stations, a garbage pickup service, a mail route contractor, and insurance sales.
Despite working hard and often, Gerald’s family was always his top priority. He made a point to be present for his wife and their two sons, especially cherishing weekends spent together.Gerald loved to read. His favorite authors included Thomas Wolfe, William Faulkner, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. He was also deeply interested in religious study, often visiting local churches to collect pamphlets and read about matters of faith and spirituality. Gerald was also an avid fisherman and loved teaching his sons how to fish, creating lasting and cherish memories.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Domingue Delcambre of New Iberia; two sons, Shannon of Birmingham, Ala., and his son, Ethan, Ethan’s mother, Mandy, and Ethan’s partner, Abbie. Gerald’s younger son Shane and his wife Jodie, and their son, Aidan of Youngsville. Gerald is also survived by his brothers and sisters from his father’s second marriage and is preceded in death by his parents, step-parents, grandparents, sisters, uncles and aunts.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Delcambre, Shane Delcambre, Ethan Delcambre, Aidan Delcambre, Brandon Choate, Scott Choate, and honorary pallbearer Jeremy Choate.
Gift-bearers will be Shannon and Shane Delcambre. Scripture readings by Aidan Delcambre.
