It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Anthony Broussard, who entered into eternity on the afternoon of July 19, 2026 at the age of 73.
Born on May 25, 1953 in Abbeville, Gerald lived a life marked by faith, hard work, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He was a devoted husband to Kathy, his beloved wife of nearly 53 years. Kathy will always cherish the many trips they were able to take in those golden retirement years.
Gerald was the proud father of Matthew, Holly, and Haley. He also treasured his six grandchildren, Kaleb, Melodie, Greyson, Drake, Banks, and Emma.
After a 30-year career in the public sector, Gerald retired nearly 20 years ago. Retirement gave him more time to do the things he loved, spending time with his family, traveling through our beautiful country, working with his hands, and going “rang-a-dang” with his buddies. He always had a fascination with understanding how things worked, and he loved tinkering with whatever he could get his hands on.
Above all, Gerald loved God. He showed his children by his actions how to love the unlovable and be a friend to the lonely. He led his family not only with his words, but with the quiet consistency of his life. He taught his children to revere God and to recognize the holiness of His presence. He loved his wife faithfully and sacrificially, just as Christ loved the Church, and he honored his parents throughout their lives. In his mother's final years, his children witnessed his steadfast devotion as he lovingly cared for her daily with patience and compassion.
His greatest joy was seeing his faith carried on through his family. He leaves behind children who are actively pursuing God, faithfully serving Him in their local churches, and raising his beloved grandchildren to do the same. More than any accomplishment or possession, this is his greatest legacy: a family whose lives continue to point to Christ. It is a legacy that will endure for generations and one that any man would be grateful to leave behind.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathryn Suire Broussard; his children and their spouses, Matthew and Joy Broussard, Haley and Matthew Arnett, Holly and Samuel Dotson; his cherished grandchildren, Kaleb Broussard, Melodie Broussard, Greyson Arnett, Drake Arnett, Banks Arnett, and Emma Dotson; his siblings, Winston and Nan Broussard, Denise and Mike Purvis, and Claire and Daniel Frederick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Chester Broussard, his mother Melise Meaux Broussard, and his brother Barton Broussard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kaleb Broussard, Joshua Bufford, Adam Schexneider, Jay Broussard, Sam Broussard, and Chris Meaux.
Gerald’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Gerald is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His legacy of faith, love, and generosity will continue to live on in his family and in the countless lives he touched.
