A native of Jefferson Island and resident of New Iberia, Elvine “Eljane” T. Landry passed away in the early hours of September 10, 2026, at Consolata Home.

Elvine T. Landry, beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and a life devoted to caring for others.

Alongside her first husband, Joseph Trahan, Elvine traveled the world as part of a proud Navy family, calling Hawaii, San Francisco, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and numerous other places home. Her years as a Navy wife brought many adventures and experiences, but wherever life took her, her family remained at the center of her heart.

Later in life, Elvine married Russell J. Landry, who retired from the City of New Iberia and also served his community as a reserve police officer. Together, they shared a quiet life in New Iberia grounded in family and community.

Elvine’s heart was as expansive as her travels, and her devotion to her family knew no bounds. She nurtured her children with unwavering care and tenderness, instilling in them the values of love, resilience, compassion, and devotion to family.

Beyond her role as a dedicated mother, Elvine made an indelible impact on countless lives through her remarkable career in childcare spanning more than seven decades. Her passion for nurturing extended far beyond her own family, touching the hearts of generations of children who were fortunate enough to be under her care. Caring for others was not simply her life’s work, it was who she was.

In her leisure moments, Elvine found solace in the simple joys of life, whether it was sitting on her porch with her beloved companion, Chuck Norris, indulging in her passion for birdwatching, or immersing herself in the pages of novels and mysteries. Her voracious appetite for knowledge was evident in her feat of having read the entire Encyclopedia Britannica, an accomplishment that speaks volumes of her intellectual curiosity and thirst for learning.

Elvine will be fondly remembered for her kindness, strength, wisdom, quirky sense of humor, and the enduring love she shared with all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a profound void in the hearts of her family and friends, but also a treasure trove of cherished memories that will be held dear for generations to come. Her greatest legacy is not measured in years, but in the many lives she nurtured, the children she helped raise, and the love she gave so freely.

Elvine is survived by her son, Dave “Pat” Trahan (Cindy) of Hiram, GA; daughters, Kendra T. Case (Bryan) of Long Beach, MS, Penny L. Oliva (Ray) of Madison, MS, and Stepdaughter Bonnie Trahan (Roy) of Lydia, LA; grandchildren, Jason Trahan (Jeannie), Joel Case (Sandra), Carly Case, and Heather O. Lowery, great-grandchildren, Kaytlyn Trahan Forrester(Jordan), Tyler Trahan, Courtney Trahan, Addison Lowery, and Ethan Lowery.

There was also a special place in Elvine’s heart for Tania Bienvenu, a daughter in every way that truly matters. That same immeasurable love extended to Tania’s children and grandchildren, whom Elvine helped raise and embraced wholeheartedly as her own. Brandy Segura and her children, Brennan, Gage, and Gracie; Jacque Gachassin (Rachel) and his children, Vaughn and Sawyer; and Jenna Gachassin Schaubert (Jed) and her children, Rome, Atlas, and Lucian, who held an incredible bond with Elvine throughout their lifetimes. She took immense joy in watching them grow. They were the light of her life, just as “Majane” was the light of theirs. The love between them was unconditional, enduring, and woven into the fabric of their lives.

She was preceded in death by her former husbands, Joseph L. Trahan and Russell J. Landry; her sister, Sable Trahan Hebert; and her beloved chihuahua, Chuck Norris.

The family would like to thank Grace Hospice and Consolata Nursing Home for all their support, compassion, and kindness shown to Elvine and her family.
