Abbeville - A memorial service celebrating Dora’s life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 am with gathering of family and friends beginning at 10:00 am at Frioux Funeral Home in Abbeville, Louisiana 2600 Charity St Abbeville, Louisiana. Pastor Willis Horn will preside. Honorary pallbearers are Clarence Taylor, Clay Taylor, Michael Heath, Tyron Picard, Drew Picard, John Picard, Shane Landry, Michael Celestine, and Lawrence Celestine.

Dora Jane Washington Armstrong, 65, a beloved wife, sister, friend, and second mother to many, passed peacefully on June 9, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer — never wavering in her trust in God’s plan for her life. Just ten days before what would have been her 66th birthday, Dora went home to her Lord with the same quiet faith and steady grace that defined every day she lived. A lifelong resident of Abbeville, Louisiana, she was a woman whose devotion to God and family, served as the hallmark of her beautiful life.

Dora was a faithful member of Faith Hope Christian Fellowship Church, where her spiritual life was the steady foundation of everything, she did. She volunteered as head of Children’s Ministry program. Even in her illness, her faith never faltered. Those who walked alongside her in her final days witnessed a woman at peace — certain of her Savior and grateful for every blessing she had been given.

For thirty years she worked as a trusted caregiver becoming a beloved part of the Picard Family. To Drew and John Picard she was far more than a caretaker — she was “Home”. Her guidance and advice to them was rooted in her faith in God and was delivered in a loving and encouraging manner that helped shape them into the men they are today. The mark she left on their lives is a testament to the kind of woman she was. She was overjoyed last year when Drew Picard and his wife Skylar welcomed a baby girl making Dora a grandmother.

Dora is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Agnes Stewart Washington, her beloved sister, Stella Washington (Michael Felton) She leaves behind her devoted husband of twenty two years Robert Armstrong, sister, Evelyn Taylor, Evelyn’s husband Clarence James Taylor, Sr. nephew Clay Taylor, (Leslie), great nieces Claryssa Taylor and Alexis Heath, great nephew Michael Heath, nieces Veronica Jacob and Lechia Collins, lifetime friend Caroline Yvette Mitchell, and numerous cousins who will all carry her memory with great love.

Dora Armstrong gave her life in service to others and asked for nothing in return. Her joy in life was derived from time spent with those she loved, and their presence was what she considered the wealth in her life. She fought with courage, lived with grace, and departed in faith. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
