Mr. Bowen, a resident of New Iberia, was the son of the late Robert Allen Bowen and the late JoAnn Bowen Primm, and stepson of the late Winfred “Boots” Primm. He was born on October 17, 1950, in Eureka, California.

Dennis was a man who loved God, his family, and his country. He was known for his loving and gentle spirit, especially toward his wife, children, and grandchildren. A humble man, he honored God and sought to do His will and encouraged his children in the word of God.

He was also a courageous warrior who volunteered to serve his country, despite not being eligible for the draft as an only son. He served two tours in Vietnam and retired from the United States Army after more than 21 years of service. His honors include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1st OLC), and many others.

Dennis led by example, showing others how to treat people with respect and kindness. His heart was full of compassion, especially for his wounded “brothers in arms.”

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed RV camping, fishing, and golfing. He had a playful sense of humor and a spontaneous laugh that brought joy to his family. A student of history, a marksman, and an avid collector of firearms and knives.

Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren during their annual fireworks celebrations and camping trips. He was affectionately known as “Big Papa,” and he gave the world’s best hugs.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Yvonne LeBlanc Davis Bowen; his children, Pastor Dixie Bowen; Pastor Steven Bowen and wife Megan; Dr. Joy Duhon Faulk and husband Chris Faulk; and Jayson Davis; 13 grandchildren, Justice Duhon, Benjamin Bowen, Amalie Duhon, Ellie Bowen, Zoe Bowen, Abigail Bowen, Grace Bowen, Dora Davis, Jayson Davis Jr., Jayvon Davis, DeMarcus Davis, Jayonna Davis, and Diesel Davis; one brother, Jack; and two sisters, Bonnie and Dianne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Allen Bowen and JoAnn Bowen Primm, and his stepfather, Winfred “Boots” Primm.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Bowen, Justice Duhon, Chris Faulk, Allen Moore, Richard Nugier, and Larry Granger.
