LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER, AND GREATGRANDFATHER
New Iberia"A Mass of Christian Burial for R.O. Bobby Lassalle, Jr., 85, of New Iberia will be celebrated on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Peter Catholic Church. The Reverend Charles Langlois will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery, Erath.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.
Mr. Lassalle passed away on Monday, December 25, 2006 at 5:55 P.M. in his residence.
A native and lifelong resident of the New Iberia area, Mr. Lassalle was a member of the Catholic faith. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II, having fought on Iwo Jima, where he witnessed the historic flag raising on Mount Suribachi. He also served on the islands of Guam and Okinawa during the Pacific Campaign. Mr. Lassalle participated in Marine Corps boxing teams, at one time being crowned All-China Lightweight Champion.
After the war, Mr. Lassalle returned to Iberia Parish, where he was a sugar cane and cattle farmer for 30 years. He worked for the Iberia Parish Sheriffs Department for a while, then spent 20 years as a land technician for Iberia Parish Soil and Water Conservation District. Mr. Lassalle was very active in various Little League and Sheriffs League baseball programs, as well as the Iberia Parish 4-H Club. He was a member of Iberia Cattlemens Association. Mr. Lassalle was an avid hunter and fisherman, having been a member of Hustlers Duck Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Marion Dronet Lassalle of New Iberia; sons, R.O. Lassalle, III of Lafayette, Byron Lassalle and wife, Susan of New Iberia, and Phillip Lassalle and wife, Linda of New Iberia; daughters, Patricia LeLeux and husband, Kerry of New Iberia, and Iris Sherman and husband, Craig of New Iberia; brother, Rene Lassalle of New Iberia; grandchildren, Amy Derise and husband, Chris of New Iberia, Ben Lassalle of New Iberia, Lynea Buteaux and husband, Beau of New Iberia, Emile Sherman of New Iberia, Kyle LeLeux of New Iberia, Robert Sherman of New Iberia, and Alex Lassalle of New Iberia; and great-grandchildren, Thomas and Emma Derise of New Iberia, and Railey of Buteaux of New Iberia.
Preceding Mr. Lassalle in death are his parents, Gabrielle and R.O. Jake Lassalle, Sr.; and a brother, Alton Lassalle.
Serving as pallbearers are Mr. Lassalles grandsons, Ben and Alex Lassalle, Robert Sherman, and Kyle LeLeux, and his sons-in-law, Craig Sherman and Kerry LeLeux. Named as honorary pallbearers are Rene Lassalle, Raymond Delahoussaye, Malcolm Viator, and members of Hustlers Duck Hunting Club.
