New Iberia " Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. David A. Abney the former Mary Helen Byrd, age 77, at 2:00PM Tuesday January 16, 2007 at David Funeral Home Chapel with Father Gary Schexnayder officiating. Interment will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00PM Monday evening. Visitation will begin Monday January 15, 2007 from 3:00PM till 10:00PM and again Tuesday from 8:00AM till time of service. A native of Fayetteville, North Carolina Mrs. Abney has been a resident of New Iberia for many years. She has been married to Mr. David for 58 years. She was a commissioner in charge for elections for many years. She enjoyed going to the casino and loved being with her family. She is survived by her husband David A. Abney of New Iberia, Children; Deborah Abney Breaux of New Iberia, Donald Abney and wife Sheryl of Taylors, South Carolina, Mary Ellen Abney , Jack Abney and wife Andrea and Mark Lane Abney and wife Ellen all of New Iberia, brothers; Samuel Patrick Byrd and wife Betty of New Iberia, Harry Floyd Byrd of Huntsville, Alabama and Joseph Byrd and wife Jeanette of Carencro, La., one sister; Hazel Byrd of New Iberia, best friend; Mildred Thompkins of Fayetteville, North Carolina, grandchildren; C.J. She was preceded in death by her parents William Dowell Byrd and Daisy Belle Moore Byrd and sons, William Joseph Abney, Michael James Abney and David Allen Abney III. Pallbearers will be Jack, Mark, Donald, Marcus, Jordan and Davan Abney and David Breaux. Honorary pallbearers will be C.J. and Drew Breaux, Michael, Matthew and David Abney, Marcus Babineaux and Pat Byrd. David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
