New Iberia"A Mass of Christian Burial for Lt. Col. Tarlton Anthony Guyote, USAF, Retired will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 11:00AM in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Reverend Mark Derise will serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 21, 2008 from 3:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.

Lt. Col. Guyote passed away on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 5:36 P.M. in a New Iberia hospital.

A native of St. Mary Parish and a resident of Iberia Parish, Lt. Col. Guyote was a member of The Greatest Generation, having served for over 30 years of continuous service with the United States Air Force. He volunteered for duty on August 3, 1940 in Houston, TX, serving until his retirement on August 2, 1971, during which time he earned 12 various awards and decorations. He served in World War II, The Korean Conflict, and the Viet Nam Conflict, spending time in America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. His duties were related to communications operations, planning and staff assignments. After serving for seven years and four months as an enlisted man, Lt. Col. Guyote served another 22 years as a commissioned officer. His basic training was completed at Lowery Air Force Base in Denver CO, and he completed radio operator and mechanics course in July 1941 at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Other assignments included Albuquerque, NM, Montgomery, AL,, Biloxi, MS, the British Gold Coast (now Ghana), Senegal, Morocco, Tokyo, Spain, Viet Nam, and Taiwan. At the time of his retirement, he was Vice Commander of the 1839th Electronics Installation Group at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS.

After retirement from the Air Force, Lt. Col. Guyote worked for 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Social Services as a food stamp worker.

Lt. Col. Guyote enjoyed carving walking sticks, and he was a voracious reader, the consummate joke teller, and a tireless advocate of services for handicapped citizens through the Iberia ARC. His family will remember his as a devoted husband and father who instilled in his family the value of hard work and a commitment to education.

A man of faith, Lt. Col. Guyote was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He had at times taught catechism while serving in the Air Force.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Anna Mae Blanchard Guyote of New Iberia; sons, Paul E. Guyote of New Iberia and Michael Guyote and wife, Laura of Colorado Springs, CO; daughters, Kathleen Guyote of New Iberia and Jeanne Guyote Vincent and husband, Gerald of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Dorine Gondron of Bridge City, TX; grandchildren, Joshua and Cristen Guyote of New Iberia and Micah, Jacob and Paige Gautreaux of Lafayette,and Nasya Vincent of Colorado Springs, CO; four great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Thomas Gautreaux of Lafayette.

Preceding Lt. Col. Guyote in death were his parents, Morris Guyote, Sr. and Erma Frioux Guyote; daughters, Debra Guyote and Suzanne Guyote Gautreaux; sister, Mildred Guyote Dugas; and brothers, Sterling, Harold, Rene and Morris Guyote, Jr.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the ARC of Iberia, 3716 Redwood Drive, New Iberia, LA 70560.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter Street, 337-369-6336, is in charge of arrangements.
