Abbeville - Funeral Services for Mr. George M. "Brother" Eldredge, Jr., will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 2:00PM, at First Presbyterian Church of Abbeville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM at David Funeral Home, then resume Wednesday, January 23, 2008 from 11:00AM until time of services at the Church. Mr. Eldredge, age 86, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at 3:40PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Born on February 21, 1921, George M. Eldredge was a life long resident of Abbeville. He attended Abbeville High School and finished in 1938, attended Schreiner Junior College of Texas in 1940, attended Texas University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy for two years in the Pacific Ocean. After the war he worked two years as an aviation mechanic for Lockheed Aircraft in California. Mr. Eldredge returned to Abbeville, where he worked with his father on the Eldredge Farm, growing rice and raising cattle. He then went to work in the oil business from 1957 to 1985, when he took early retirement rather than move to Houston, Texas. He was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Abbeville, Louisiana where he was a long time Elder and clerk of the church. After his fathers death he took over the cattle business, and over saw the rice production. He continued in the cattle business with his nephew until 1998. He was an avid square dancer with the Dixie Twirlers. He spent the last years of his life running the family farm, and continued his hobbie as a gardner. He was known as brother or George M. by close friends and family. He was proceded in death by his beloved mother, Mattie Marshall Eldredge and his father, George M. Eldredge, Sr. and his only sister, Janie Pond Eldredge Longuirand. He is survived by his nephew, Hartwell Longuirand of Abbeville, and niece, Mrs. Jane Coles and her husband Dr. Chet Coles of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
