Coteau"Funeral services for Mr. Sexon Joseph Labit, Sr., 83, will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Reverend Ed Degeyter will officiate. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 P.M. Visitation will resume on Sunday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Mr. Labit passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 11:34 P.M. in his Coteau residence. A native of Delcambre and long time resident of Coteau, Mr. Labit was a U.S. Army Veteran. He served as a school bus driver for Iberia Parish Schools for many years. He also had worked as a fertilizer salesman for Red Barn Chemicals, and as a contract sugar cane cutter. A member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Mr. Labit was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #5111, and he was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Mr. Labit was a hard worker who enjoyed camping and caring for his yard. His greatest joy in life was his family, for whom he cared very much. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Huval Labit of Coteau; son, Sexon Joseph Labit, Jr. of Baton Rouge; daughter, Karen Faye Labit Comeaux and husband, Kevin of Coteau; brother, Eddie Labit, Jr. of New Iberia; sisters, Lucy Nell L. Davis and husband, Gerald of Houston, TX and Loyce L. Barilleaux of San Antonio, TX; granddaughters, Kristi Lynne Comeaux of Coteau, Lacie Labit Boutte and husband, Blake of Youngsville, and Tiffy Labit Wynn and husband, Tommy of Bossier City; and two great-granddaughters. Preceding Mr. Labit in death were his parents, Eddie Labit, Sr. and Elenie Waguespack Labit; son, Brian Joseph Labit, Sr.; brother, Autry Labit; sister, Eldine Latiolais; and great-grandson, Brian Labit, Jr. Serving as pallbearers are Kenneth Labit, Warren Labit, Bernard Barilleaux, Donald Romero, Darryl Gary, and Marty Trahan. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Lafayette, LA 70503. David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter Street, 369-6336 is in charge of arrangements.
