Rusty Robert Ruiz

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 from 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM and resume on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 8:00 AM until time of services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.

A native of New Iberia and a resident of Loreauville, Rusty died on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 6:30 PM from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was a 1999 Loreauville High School graduate and played football for 4 years in high school and participated in track and field and baseball. After graduation, he enrolled at UL of Lafayette and after a year and a half enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and was assigned as an Embassy Guard at American Embassies in Beijing, Budapest, Japan and Tajikistan. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he served in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve for 3 and one half years. Upon his discharge, he re-enrolled at UL of Lafayette majoring in Political Science and was scheduled to graduate on May 15, 2010. He also worked part time for Rytec in St. Martinville. He loved golf, fishing, bar-b-queing for family and friends.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Katherine Legnon Ruiz and Cordell Ruiz of Loreauville; his father, Gregory John Ruiz of Loreauville; his sisters, Racheal Ruiz-Washington and her husband Donald Ray of Grand Marais, Christine R. Bourque and her husband Sam of New Iberia, Bridget R. Judice and her husband Perry Judice, II and Latrelle R. Viator and her husband Chad all of Loreauville; his paternal grandparents, Russell Ruiz, Jr. and Vivian Ruiz of Loreauville; his godmother, Sandra L. Bourque and her husband Darren Bourque of Grand Marais; his godfather, Ted H. Legnon and his wife Sue of New Iberia; his uncle, Glenn Legnon and his wife Denise of Lydia; his aunts, Charlene R. Picheloup and her husband Jim Picheloup, II of New Iberia and Melissa R. Drescher and her husband Ed of Prairieville; his godchildren, Deja Ruiz and Deon Washington both of Grand Marais and the love of his life, Danielle Rae Brooks of Opelousas.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, T. L. Legnon and Gloria M. Legnon and his uncle, Tommy G. Legnon.

Pallbearers will be Dusty Hoffpauir, Josh Jordan, Ryan Landry, Jason Legnon, Victor Drescher and Jim Picheloup, III.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jacob Munnerlyn, John Munnerlyn, Cy Schaubert, Chris Bourque, Mr. David Brooks, Heath Prados, Andrew Picheloup, Chris Decuir, Dave Armentor, Dane Legnon, Scott Legnon,. Jeb Legnon, Jonathan Guidry, Derek Gondronand Chace Fleming.
