Youngsville " A Celebration of Life service will be held for Mr. Billy Ray Hopkins, Sr., 79, at 2 P.M. on Saturday, August, 28, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Youngsville, 623 Lafayette Street, Youngsville, LA 70592 with Brother Mark Gaudin officiating. A reception will follow services in the reception hall. A native of Brownwood, TX and a longtime resident of Youngsville, Mr. Hopkins passed away August 25, 2010 at his residence in Youngsville. Most of the early years of Billys life were spent in Orange, TX. He completed high school at Stark High School and attended Lamar University before beginning a 60 year career in the oilfield where he traveled extensively. His travels included many places overseas and Billy trained many oilfield personnel in the art of Directional Drilling before recently retiring as an independent Directional Drilling Consultant. He was well known and respected in the business and his expertise will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife Jerre Jan Morgan Hopkins of Youngsville; his six children, Lora Alicia Harrelson of Wylie, TX, Tamara Simpson of Weatherford, TX, Billy Ray Hopkins, Jr. of Dallas, TX, Jerald Dewitt Hopkins of Sonnyvale, TX, Stephen Keith Hopkins of Huntsville, TX and Stacey Wayne Hopkins of Baton Rouge, LA; eighteen grandchildren ; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jackie Faulkner of Casper, Wyoming and his canine buddy, Bugsy. Billy Ray, Sr. was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of Lora, Tamara, Billy Ray, Jr. and Jerald, Lavergne Skipworth Hopkins; his second wife and mother of Stephen, Sallie Tullos Hopkins; his parents, Boyd Alfred Hopkins, Sr. and Vera Opal Squyres Hopkins and three brothers, Boyd Alfred Hopkins, Jr. ,Donald Gene Hopkins and Johnny Hopkins.
