Provost Joseph Minvielle, a loving husband, father,grandfather, brother and friend to many passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the age of 78. Provost is survived by his wife, Ellen Johnson Minvielle, his daughter Margie wife of Ned LeBlanc of Lafayette and his sons Provost III, husband of Jenny Indest and Robert, husband of Kristi David of New Iberia; grandchildren, Andrew and Katherine LeBlanc of Lafayette, William and Jacob Minvielle, and Robert Jr. and Anna Kate Minvielle; sister Virginia Lee Minvielle, all of New Iberia. He is the son of the late Provost Joseph Minvielle Sr and Lucille Barrow Minvielle. He will also be missed by his canine companion "Gus".
Provost, a parishioner of St Peter's Catholic Church was born in New Iberia where he was a lifelong resident. Provost was a graduate of SLI, now UL at Lafayette. He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed in various capacities in the oilfield services industry for many years.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at David Funeral Home in New Iberia. Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Sunday, August 29th and will resume on Monday August 30th from 8am until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7pm on Sunday evening. Father Ed Degeter will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am on Monday August 30th at St Peter's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are his two sons Provost J Minvielle, III and Robert B Minvielle, son-in-law Ned A LeBlanc, grandson Andrew LeBlanc, The Honorable W. Eugene Davis and L. Albert "Bud" Forrest. Honorary pallbearers are Felix Courville, Pierce "Tuffy" Fletcher, Larry Fowler, Sr., Billy Gesser, Dr. Carroll Guinn, Al LaSalle, John Mire, Billy Patout, Roy J Patout, and Lawrence Simon Jr.
