Mrs. Boutte was a native of the Belle Place community near Loreauville and a resident of New Iberia for her entire adult life. In her earlier years, she enjoyed listening and dancing to big band era music, participating in her local home demonstration club, travelling, and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. She was a great storyteller and she loved endlessly recounting the story of the flood of 1927 (highwater as she called it) to her grandchildren.

She was known for her great culinary skills and won many awards for her cooking. Her family and friends considered her to be the greatest cook in the South and the real champion of gumbo cooking. She was affectionately called Momee by her sons. Her greatest joy for many, many years was to cook a huge Sunday dinner for her entire family with all of her side dishes fresh from the garden and everything homemade down to the mayonnaise on her potato salad. She was fortunate to have lived a long, healthy life and to have witnessed many world-changing events.
