Allen Benoit

New Iberia " Funeral services will be conducted for Allen B. Benoit, 88, on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the David Funeral Home Chapel with Father Charles Langlois officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Peters Cemetery with Military Honors by V. F. W. Post 1982 of New Iberia.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM and resume on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 8:00 AM until services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM and members of V.F.W. Post 1982 will have a Ritual in the funeral home on Monday morning at 9:00 AM.

A native of Rayne and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Benoit died on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 7:00 PM in a New Iberia hospital. He was a retired Boat Captain with Lynn B. Dean Elevating Boats and prior to his retirement the company christened an elevation boat in his name. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Marines. He was a member of the American Legion Post 335 and V. F. W. Post 1982. He loved gardening and raising animals.

He is survived by his daughters, Emily Rodrigue and her husband Ray of St. Martinville, Rosemary Dore, Carolyn Comeaux and her husband Paul, Claylee LeBlanc and her husband Bobby and Jackie LeBlanvc and her husband Albert all of New Iberia; his sons, Allen A. Benoit and his wife Jeannie of Loreauville and Clifton Benoit and his wife Edna of Leesville and his sisters, Liz Breaux, Thelma Norris both of New Iberia and Reese Benoit of Sulphur. He is also survived by 65 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lela Romero Benoit; his parents, Albert J. and Clementine Guillotte Benoit; his daughters, Joyce Benoit and Mayetta Benoit; his sons, Herman Derouen and Elray Derouen; his brother, Elton Benoit and his sisters, Addie Romero and Electa Landry.

Pallbearers will be Roy LeBlanc, Jr., Shawn LeBlanc, Toby LeBlanc, Scott LeBlanc, Chance Erwin and Renny Darby, Jr..

Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Benoit, Michael Bonin and Kevin Bonin.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter St. (337) 369-6336 is in charge of arrangements.
