Mary Landry Broussard

February 12, 1929 — January 9, 2014

New Iberia- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Alton P. Broussard, the former Mary Landry, age 84, on Saturday January 11, 2014 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Jerry Mesley to serve at the Celebrant. A eulogy will be given by Kathy Romero. Reading from sacred scripture will be Stacey Mula and Tiffany Broussard. Giftbearers will be LOreal Migues, Summer Broussard, Ava Davis, Bethany Burton, and Kearstin Broussard. Interment will follow at Beau Pre Memorial Park.

Visitation will begin on Friday January 10, 2014 at 2:00pm and conclude at 9:00pm with a recitation of the rosary by the Mens Rosary Group at 7:00pm. Visitation will resume on Saturday January 11, 2014 from 8:00am until service time.

A native of Patoutville and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Broussard passed away on Thursday January 9, 2014 at 3:05am at Belle Teche Nursing Home. Mrs. Broussard was a L.P.N. for Dr. Vernon Voorhies for 25 years before her retirement. For many years she was a reader at Our Lady of Perpetual Help at the 11:30am Mass. She was a RCIA teacher, member of the Ladies Alter Society, member and past president of the VFW Post 1982 Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Broussard was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, playing pokeno and bingo, and going to the casino.

Mrs. Broussard was the heart and soul of her family and her family meant everything to her. She never met a stranger, Ms. Mary would selflessly provide shelter to anyone in need and would often take in family members and raise them as if they were her own children. Described as a firecracker she always had a joke and would always tell you what she thought, regardless of the outcome. With a smile that would lift up your heart, she always made people feel loved and welcome.

Mrs. Broussard is survived by her children, Kathy Romero and husband Ken of Youngsville, Pauline B. Romero and husband Russell P. of New Iberia, Wayne P. Broussard of Houma and Fiance Consuela Henson, Janet B. LeBlanc and husband Kerman J. Jr. of New Iberia, Jason J. Broussard and wife Rita of New Iberia; grandchildren, Stacey Mula and husband Mark of Lafayette, LOreal Migues and husband Bert of Lafayette, Tiffany L. Broussard of Maurice and fianc Joel Domangue, Brad M. Romero and wife Mellissa of New Iberia, Rusty Romero of New Iberia and fiance Danielle Guilbeau, Ava Davis and husband Chad of Shreveport, Bethany Burton of Tulsa, OK., Summer Broussard and husband Braedon of New Iberia, Marcus LeBlanc, Jacob LeBlanc, Kearstin Broussard, Kaleb Broussard, Braeden Broussard all of New Iberia; 20 great grandchildren; and one 1st cousin who she always considered as a sister, Doris Edler of New Iberia.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alton P. Broussard; and parents, Dewey Jean and Mala Duhon Landry.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Broussard, Jason Broussard, Kerman LeBlanc, Brad Romero, Rusty Romero, Marcus LeBlanc, Jacob LeBlanc, Kaleb Broussard, and Braeden Broussard. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Romero, Ken Romero, Reese Landry, and Vanice Boo Guidry.

The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice and the Belle Teche caregivers of the 500 hall for their outstanding care and compassion.
