Glenn Lucien Delaune, Sr.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville at 10:30AM for Glenn L. DeLaune, Sr., 74, who passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 14, 2011. The church will open at 9:00 AM for those wishing to arrive early to pay their respects to the family. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM, prior to the Mass, which will be celebrated by Rev. Edward Degeyter; Con-Celebrant will be Rev. Job Edathinatt, Associate Pastor of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Swartz, LA. Entombment will follow services in St. Anne Catholic Mausoleum. Mr. DeLaune was a native of Parks, LA. He graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, then known as USL in 1963 with a degree in Music Education. He taught about ten years before joining the sugar industry, where he spent most of his working career. He retired from the Louisiana Sugar Cane Co-op in St. Martinville where held the position of Fabrication Superintendent and Assistant Manager. After his retirement he continued to do consulting work for the company. Glenn was a devout Catholic. To keep in touch with his music skills after he left teaching, he directed several church choirs and played in community concert bands. He was a part-time conductor/player in the Iberia Community Band, a member of the Eunice Community Concert Band, sang with the St. Anne Church Choir in Youngsville and the Acadian French Memorial Choir in St. Martinville. His hobbies, other than music included working with watches, clocks, model trains and traveling. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Mary Ellen Lalande; one son, Glenn DeLaune, Jr. and his wife, Katie; one daughter, Beth Comeaux and her husband, Anthony and one grandchild, Madison Comeaux all of Youngsville; his Mother, Ethel Roy DeLaune; sister, Gail Pierre both of Parks and one brother, Russ DeLaune and his wife, Gloria of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his father, Antoine DeLaune formally of Parks. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Mr. DeLaune in his last days.
