Ursula Picard

May 23, 1966 — August 7, 2011

Ursula Marie Picard, age 45, departed this life for her next, in the spirit realm on the 7th day of August 2011. Ursula was born May 23, 1966; the most beautiful gift to her parents, Floyd and Nola (Girard) Picard, bringing her home to the family was a true celebration of joy. Ursula, was born an artist, muralist and sculptor whos whimsical, slyly humorous, artworks and fusion of form and content is powerful and dramatic, lyrically rhythmic, imaginative and emotional. As an artist she was completely absorbed in the effort to explain either her struggle against the ambition she wished to express or her comprehension of the spiritual essence of man, woman and nature. Her vibrant fluent style is defined by her use of whites, yellows, blues and lavenders against bright black back grounds. Her mythical view of American life graced many business walls and other public places. Ursula was known for her intense realist portraits and soulful art as well as Christian expressions. She was welcomed on her spiritual journey by her paternal grandparents Roland (Red) and Mable Picard and her maternal grandparents Cleus and Olympe (Dutil) Girard, Uncle Calvin Picard and Aunt Martha Girard. She is survived by her parents Floyd and Nola Picard, Brother Royd Picard and wife Suzy and 2 nieces Taylor and Kalyn of Broussard, Godfather Joe Girard and Godchild Derrick Girard of New Iberia, Uncle Roland Picard JR and Aunt Vitus Bryant and Godmother Dr. Phyllis Picard Staton all of New Iberia. In appreciation to her loving friends and caretakers who took special concern through her struggle with Leukemia, a heartfelt thanks to Pamela Hebert of Lafayette, Janice Gallet of Lafayette, Carolyn Hubbard of Lafayette, Fran Broussard of New Iberia, Monica Erickson of Houston and Mark Boudoin of Colorado.
