Catherine Agnes Aucoin DeRouen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away January 3, 2014 in Houston, Texas at the age of 92. Catherine was born August 19, 1921 at her family home on W. Main in New Iberia, Louisiana. She was a 1938 graduate of Mount Carmel Academy, a founding member of the OMNO Club, and, with her friend Bert Nereaux, owned ABC Kindergarten for 25 years. Her father was founder of the Evangeline Life Insurance Company. Following the death of her husband in 1998, Catherine moved to Houston to be closer to her children. A devout Catholic, a most loving mother and friend to all, faith and family were the center of Catherine's life. Catherine is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert M. "Bob" DeRouen, her parents Arthur Joseph and Mary Barrett Aucoin, three siblings, Lillian A. Storey, A.J. Aucoin, Jr, and her twin brother Patrick "Packy" Aucoin. She is survived by her five children, Mary Celeste D. Reed and husband Harold of Baton Rouge, Stephanie D. Wright and husband Bob of Houston, Cathy D. Powell and husband George of Houston, Claudia D. Burg of Houston, and Robert M. DeRouen, Jr. and wife Joanne of Lafayette, and her brother, Thomas "Tommy" Aucoin of Houston. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 7 (soon to be 8) great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 8, from 5-8 pm at David's Funeral Home in New Iberia with recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 pm. Visitation will resume Thursday, January 9, at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am presided by Fathers Richard Greene and Mario Romero. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Robert Scott, Robert T. Wright, Patrick Burg, James DeRouen, Chris Hester and Brett Beaubouef. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Wright and George Powell.
