New Iberia- A funeral mass will be held for Mrs. Meriwether Lewis Price, the former Mary Ruth Patout on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00PM at St. Peters Catholic Church. Mary Ruth passed away at 4:58PM on July 9, 2011 at Belle Teche Nursing Home. Visitation for immediate family will be at 11:00AM; public visitation will take place at 12 noon, with a rosary recited at 1:00PM. She was born March 27, 1914 in the Enterprize Plantation home in Patoutville, La., and was the daughter of William Schwing Patout Sr. and Agnes Louise Decuir Patout. During her long life, she enjoyed playing bridge, giving dinner parties, teaching English to veterans after WWII, planting flowers, and cooking gourmet meals. In 1952 she married Pat Price and moved to Charlottesville, Va., where she lived until 1996. During those years, she made many friends of all ages. She also loved attending football and basketball games at the University of Virginia. During her youth, she attended and graduated from New Iberia High School on Center St., and afterwards Notre Dame of Maryland, Sophie Newcomb, the University of Va., S.L.I., and graduated from L.S.U. with a B.A. degree in English and a minor in French. After college she spent two months in Europe visiting Germany, the Vatican, and other parts of Italy, France, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, and Poland. Later in life, she enjoyed cruises on the Queen Elizabeth II, to Greece and Turkey with her sister-in-law Hester Patout. She is survived by one daughter, Louise Dunn Fugua; two grandsons, Daniel Nelson of Alexander, N. Carolina, and Timothy Nelson and wife Lindsey; and two great grandsons, Quinn and Evan, all of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Other survivors include nephews, William S. Patout III and wife Susan, and Robert B. Patout and wife Judith; great-grand nephews and nieces; William S. Patout IV & children (Marianne & Danelle), Rivers M. Patout, wife Lisa (Roddy & Anne), Avrill, husband Richard Viator (David & Alysse), Simon Patout, Catherine Pendergast, Sean Pendergast (Judy Ann, James, & Sammy), Hester, husband Paul Bourdier (Missy, Crawford, George, & Susie), Anne Marie, husband John Henry Bradford (Mary Beth & John William), and Venetia Patout, Mark Charbonnet (Nicholas & Pierre). Mary Ruth was Preceded in death by her parents Mr. & Mrs. William S. Patout Sr.; a brother, William S. Patout Jr. and his wife Hester Bernadas Patout; first husband, Charles Henry Dunn; and second husband, Meriwether Lewis Price. Active pallbearers are Timothy D. Nelson, Daniel L. Nelson, William S. Patout III, Rivers M. Patout, Simeon C. Patout, and Henry J. Dauterive. Honorary pallbearers are William S. Patout IV, Paul Bourdier, John Bradford, Wilson LeBlanc, and Sean Pendergast. Interment will follow with a private family gathering at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patoutville, La. Our family extends great appreciation and love to Mary Ruths Caregivers: Odessa Rener, Cynthia Alexander, Annette Lewis, Mary Peter, Delores Lumpkin, Rose Rener, Doretha Charles, Denver Marks, and Tashanna Baptiste, and also especially to Dr. Burt Bujard, the Hospice nurses, and all the additional doctors and nurses at Dauterive Hospital.
