Visitation will resume at Faith Lutheran Church on Monday, August 22, 2011 from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Beau Pr Memorial Park in Jeanerette, LA. A native of New Iberia and a resident of Broussard for the past 22 years, Mr. Pollard died peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 8:16 AM after a lengthy battle with neck cancer. Mr. Pollard spent his junior high and high school years in Dallas, TX. He then attended Henderson County Junior College (now Trinity Valley Junior College) in Athens, TX on a basketball scholarship, before moving back to New Iberia in 1969. Butch, a fun-loving, devoted husband, father, and friend, had many and varied interests. His love of people, history, politics, guns, music, books, movies, and all sports made him a unique character and conversationalist. A long time salesman in the oil and gas industry, Butch never met a stranger and was always able to find a common denominator with anyone he met. His tenacity for developing relationships and his ability to recall names, faces, and facts contributed to his success. He was a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and was passionate about Teurlings Catholic High School Girls Basketball. He was most happy and proud when watching his daughters play basketball for Teurlings. A competitor at heart, in his later years he rarely declined an opportunity to participate in games of Trivial Pursuit, cards, or dominoes. Those who knew him will admit he was not a person of convention, and his many friends are pleased to share their extraordinary Butch stories. Butch, however, is best remembered as one who readily demonstrated his love and devotion to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hetzel Pollard, two daughters, Julia Christine Pollard, and Elizabeth Rose Pollard, of Broussard; two maternal aunts, Eleanor Kapsos Toups, and Betty Kapsos Schneider, both of New Iberia.; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland E. Pollard, Sr. and Christine Kapsos Pollard; a brother, James Curtis Pollard II.; maternal grandparents, Ted and Mary Kapsos; and paternal grandparents, James Curtis Pollard, Sr. and Sue Pollard Tanner. Serving as pallbearers are close friends Mark Broussard, John Edley, Bobby Muffoletto, K.C. Kincaide, Bobby Camp, and Richard Chalmers. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Bill Mohon and Robert Sharum. The family wishes to acknowledge the generous kindness and support that the leadership and employees of Dynamic Industries, Inc. and the Moreno Group, LLC extended to Butch and his family throughout the duration of his illness. The family also appreciates the exceptional care provided by Hospice of Acadiana. David Funeral Home of Lafayette at 316 Youngsville Hwy, (337)837-9887, will be handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 104 Rue Fontaine, Lafayette, LA 70508
