"Safely Home" Youngsville - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Cleveland "Cleve" J. Menard, 96, will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. Anne's Catholic Church with Fr. Aaron Melancon officiating. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 10:00AM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 8:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at St. Anne's Cemetery. A native of Broussard and a resident of Youngsville Mr. Menard died at 4:48AM on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his residence. He was self taught and a master electrician. Although he was not in the military, he contributed to a vital part of World War II having worked as an electrician in the shipyards. One of his tasks was wiring the guns on military ships. Mr. Menard was an avid sportsman and great musician. He played Bass Guitar, but could play almost anything with string and was a member of the band that opened for major artist when they came to the Heymann Civic Center. He was also a gold metal recipient in the Senior Olympics. He is survived by four sons, Earl Menard and his wife Phyllis of Youngsville, Kenneth Menard and his wife Gisele of Duson, Ray Menard and his partner Carlton Smith of Lafayette, and Robert Menard and his wife Lisa of Lafayette; three daughters, Betty Menard Vallot of Youngsville, Gail Menard Cormier and her husband Henry of Youngsville, and Carolyn Menard Landry and her husband Michael of Youngsville; a brother, Fred Menard of Lafayette; a sister, Vida Menard Fruge of Broussard; twenty-four grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife of over 59 years, Lena Langlinais Menard; his parents, Andrew and Lawrance Landry Menard; a son in law, Jesse Vallot; two brothers, Frank Menard and Willis Menard; and a sister, Irene Menard Bonin. Serving as pallbearers will be Earl Menard, Kenneth Menard, Robert Menard, Henry Cormier, Michael Landry, and Cain Vallot. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Vida Menard Fruge, Ray Menard, Betty Menard Vallot, Gail Menard Cormier, Carolyn Menard Landry, Phyllis Menard, Carlton Smith, Gisele Menard, and Lisa Menard. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Toni Busby, Janette Laviolette, and Sue Dugas for their great compassionate care. Also a special thanks to Dr. D.D.
