Helen Marie Rawlins Morvant

New Iberia- Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Helen Marie Morvant, age 85, on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 2:30PM at the David Funeral Home Chapel of New Iberia with Father Ed Degeyter to serve as the Celebrant.  Interment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patoutville.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 9:00AM until the time of the service with a recitation of the Rosary at 10:00AM.

A native of Weeks Island and resident of New Iberia, and former longtime resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Morvant passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 3:45PM at a local nursing facility.

Mrs. Morvant retired from Jeanerette Mills after 25 years of service as a Quality Control Inspector for Fruit of The Loom. She enjoyed watching and cheering on her New Orleans Saints, listening to Swamp Pop, and caring for her family. She was an extraordinary cook and loved preparing meals for her loving family. As most grandmothers often do, she adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and delighted in spending time with them.

Left to cherish her memory is her Son, Lovancie Joseph "Boo" Morvant Jr. of New Iberia; Daughter, Belinda Viator and husband Douglas of Jeanerette; Son, Joel Morvant, Sr. and wife Lora of New Iberia; Grandchildren, Blake Viator of Jeanerette, Ridge Morvant, Sr. and fiancée Kaisha Gedward of New Iberia, Callie Stansbury and husband Alan "Poochie" of New Iberia; Great Grandchildren, Hayden Vincent, Victor Morvant, Bailey Marie Morvant, Ridge Michael Morvant Jr., and Destina Antoinette Snyder all of New Iberia.

She is preceded in death by her Husband, Lovancie Joseph "L.J." Morvant Sr; Father, William Rawlins; Mother, Nita Miguez Rawlins; two Infant Sons, Bryon Joseph Morvant and Luke Morvant; Grandchild, Joel A. Morvant, Jr; and two Sisters, Margarette Simoneaux and Marjorie Andras.

Upholding the honor of Pallbearers are "Boo" Morvant, Joel Morvant, Sr., Ridge Morvant, Sr., Douglas Viator, Blake Viator, and Alan Stansbury.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Hayden Vincent, Victor Morvant, and Ridge Morvant, Jr.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Heritage Manor North and Bridgeway Hospice, especially Alyson Champagne, Sarah Mitchell, Debbie Daigle, Stephanie Leleux, Dea Elder, Carissa Harrison, Erin Viator, Rhea Francois, and Heather Richard for all of the care and compassion given to their mother.
