Floyd Copell

New Iberia – Funeral services will be conducted for Floyd Copell, 67, on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 1:00 PM at David Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Hodges officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Pecan Island Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 8:00 AM until time of service.

A Pecan Island native and resident of New Iberia; Mr. Copell went home to be with the lord on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 3:32 AM. He graduated from Pecan Island High in 1968 and then attended Northwestern University until 1971. Through his life he enjoyed basketball, hunting and fishing. Floyd always loved visiting with folks, having a good laugh and telling stories. He was also known for his generosity and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. These days, you could have found him “barking orders” at his New Iberia shop, Port Electric or “relaxing” at his Pecan Island Camp, Crawfish Haven.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Gaspard of New Iberia; his children, Brody Copell and his wife Danielle of New Iberia, Rebecca Copell of Lafayette; his grandchildren, Gage and Eli Copell of New Iberia; his brothers, Winston Copell and wife Dianna of New Iberia, Wayne Copell and wife Mary of New Iberia, Larry Copell and wife Charlene of New Iberia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Copell was preceded in death by his parents, Newton Copell and Shirley White Copell; aunt, Jeanette White Koch and husband Roy Koch; sister, Giles Copell Tisdale; brother, Marvin Copell and wife Virgie.

Pallbearers will be Drew Lasseigne, Marc Copell, Darren Copell, Jeremy Valls, Brody Copell and Bennett Dungan. Honorary pallbearers will be Gordon Copell, Guy Copell and Brandon Gaspard.
