Ernest Migues

New Iberia – Funeral Services will be held for Mr. Ernest Migues, age 92, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at David’s Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Keith Landry officiating the service. Interment will follow at St. Nicholas Mausoleum in Patoutville.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 8:00 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM.

A native of Weeks Island  and a lifelong resident of Lydia, Mr. Ernest went home to be with the Lord at 7:48 PM on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Maison Teche Nursing Home.

Upon leaving high school Mr. Ernest would respond to the calling of this great nation to serve in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the USS Franklin just months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Although the vessel would receive a life threatening blast from a bomb, Mr. Migues abandoned ship and his life was spared. He completed his term in the Navy and would receive an honorable discharge. He would then move back to Louisiana and meet the love of his life, Mrs. Rita Broussard Migues.  Ernest would then pursue a career as a mechanic for Morton Salt and proudly retire there after 35 years of loyal service.  Upon his retirement he began to repair and build trawls for catching shrimp. His hobbies also included hunting, fishing, shrimping and running dogs in a fox pen. On Sunday morning you could find Mr. Ernest cooking biscuits and drinking coffee with his friends while discussing outdoor living. He deeply loved all of his family and his sense of humor will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his daughter Debbie Simon and her husband James Jr., daughter Trudy Rush and her husband Robert, his daughter Cindy Robillard and her husband Larry, a son Rudy Migues and his wife Danelle and they are all from Lydia, his grandchildren James Simon III, Jada Gonzales, Fallon Frederick, Noel Migues, Shari Simon, Jonathan Rush and Michael Cherry; seven great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren, also his sisters Edna Stroud, Nola Boullion, and Shirley Luent.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Rita Broussard Migues, his parents Adolph and Elda Lopez Migues, his brothers Leroy, Simon, Wilbert and Edgar Migues Sr.

Upholding the honor of pallbearers will be Rudy Migues, Jonathan Rush, Shea Simon, James Simon III, Robert Rush, and Larry Robillard.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Simon Jr., Larry Migues, Billy Migues, Garland Stroud, Gilbert Migues and Chester Boudreaux.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his caretakers, Patsy Barrilleaux, Jennifer Mayfield, and Paula Figueroa and also extend their appreciation to the loving care he received from Acadian Hospice and Maison Teche Nursing Home.
