Lafayette – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Elwood J Abshire, 89, at 10:00 AM on 17, April, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Youngsville with Pastor Chris Fuselier officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia, La.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00
PM to 9:00
PM on Monday April 16, 2018
. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00
AM on Tuesday until the time of services.

Survivors include his four children: Suzanne Abshire Whittenberg and husband Mike of Youngsville, Russell J. Abshire and wife Mary of El Campo, Tx. , Frank H Boone of Youngsville and Catherine Boone Bourque and her husband Albert of Youngsville, La., 18 Grandchildren: 23 Great-grand-children: One sister, Chlorie Abshire Vincent of Nunez, La and an abundance of neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50yrs Anna Robicheaux Abshire parents Lou and Susie Gallien Abshire, Two brothers Elzie Abshire and Oris Abshire both of Kaplan, La , One sister Naomi Abshire Hebert of Nunez, La. , and In-laws Leeward Joseph and Anna Mae Bourque Robicheaux of New Iberia, La.
Pallbearers will be Jake Brower, Sr., Caleb Brower, Noah Brower, Jay Whittenberg III, Jason Bourque & Treynan Pillette. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ryan Abshire, Braden Abshire, Phil Bonner and Alex Eubanks.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to his CNA’s of Maison De Lafayette and to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital for the love and care shown during his illness and in his final weeks.
